Shelly L. Collins

RMR, CRR, CRC — Registered Merit Reporter

Shelly L. Collins began her court reporting career in 1981, in Iowa, where she was born and raised. After obtaining an A.S. degree in Court Reporting from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, she then obtained her Iowa CSR and national RPR. Shelly worked as a freelance court reporter in Cedar Rapids a short time before moving to Denver, Colorado, with her husband, where she worked for a local court reporting firm for eight years.

In 1989, Shelly and her family relocated to Lexington, Kentucky, where she worked with a freelance firm until starting Collins Sowards Lennon Reporting, LLC, in 2013, with Marybeth C. Sowards and Daniel F. Lennon.

Shelly is a Registered Merit Reporter, Certified Realtime Reporter, and Certified Realtime Captioner. She is a member of the National Court Reporters Association, having served on NCRA's National Congress of State Associations, and Kentucky Court Reporters Association, serving on the board of KyCRA 2021–2023 and as president 2023–2025.

Marybeth Sowards

Marybeth C. Sowards

CCR, CLVS — Certified Court Reporter & Legal Video Specialist

Marybeth C. Sowards holds a B.S. and M.S. in English from Eastern Kentucky University. After a brief career as a high school English teacher, she has been reporting in Central Kentucky since 1982. Court reporting was a natural choice — her mother was also a court reporter.

Marybeth is a Certified Court Reporter and Certified Legal Video Specialist. She is a member of the National Court Reporters Association and the Kentucky Court Reporters Association.

Dan Lennon

Daniel F. Lennon

RPR — Registered Professional Reporter

Daniel F. Lennon received his B.A. in French and Business Management from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York in 1988, followed by an A.S. degree in Court Reporting from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. He worked in central and northern New York State as well as Quebec and Ontario, Canada for approximately two years.

In the fall of 1992, Dan relocated to Lexington, where he has lived ever since. In May 1993, Dan received his Registered Professional Reporter certification. He is a member of the National Court Reporters Association.
